Tornados' rally falls short against LeTourneau

LONGVIEW, Texas - The Concordia Men's Basketball team's second half rally came up short against LeTourneau losing 83-79 in the semis of the ASC Tournament on Friday night.

Five Tornados (19-8, 12-4 ASC) scored in double figures led by Joe Neal's 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for his second straight double-double and eighth of the year. Ephriam Price and Rashad Coleman each had 13 points as CTX struggled from behind the arc, finishing 3-14. Both teams were even matched as the Yellow Jackets (22-5, 12-4 ASC) only outscored the Tornados 44-42 in the paint.

In the first half, CTX was unable to find their offensive groove, shooting only 39.3 percent from the field. LETU, meanwhile, opened the game on a 16-4 run with 15:53 left in the first half. The Tornados would chip away at the deficit and eventually took a 26-25 lead after a pair of free throws by Ben Page, who had 12 points and six rebounds in the game. Tied at 31-all, the Yellow Jackets would close out the half on a 13-4 run and led 44-35 at the half. Neal led with 13 points at the midpoint.

In the second half, LETU pushed the lead back up to double digits and led 56-46 with 12:54 remaining. But CTX rallied and made it a two-point game after a fastbreak layup by Price. The Yellow Jackets would maintain a one possession lead with less than three minutes to play. A Philip Meikle jumper cut it to 77-74 with 1:21 left. Neal's layup with seven seconds left in the game made it a two-point but the Yellow Jackets' Nate West hit two free throws on the ensuing possession so seal the game as the Tornados lost 83-79.

The loss concludes CTX's run in the ASC Tournament and will now wait for the NCAA Tournament to be announced which will occur on Monday, Feb. 27, at 11:30 a.m.
