BOX SCORE 2 MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Texas volleyball closed out the Concordia Invitational splitting a pair of matches and earning their first win of the season on Saturday.
In the first game of the day, the Tornados faced Concordia Ann Arbor. CTX would make quick work of the Cardinals, sweeping them in straight sets to earn their first win of the year.
Carly Custer led the team, tallying her second straight double-double of the season with 14 kills and 14 digs, as the Tornados had 41 kills for the game.
Marissa Stinson would also reach double figures in kills, finishing with 10.
CTX would take set one 25-15 after only committing four errors as a team along with 12 kills. In the second set, it was a back-and-forth battle as neither team could pull away. Leading 21-19, the Tornados would take the next four points and close out the set with a
Brooke Camet kill. In the final set, CTX would reach double-digit kills once again and took advantage of seven Cardinals errors to win the set and the match.
Lianne VanDyke had a team-high 36 assists, while Camet and
Samantha Mendez protected at the net, tallying three and two blocks respectively.
In the second game of the day, the Tornados faced tournament host Concordia Wisconsin, who overpowered CTX at the net and took the match in straight sets.
Farina led the team in kills with eight, while three Tornados had two blocks each in
Marjani Myles, Mendez and Stinson.
Rylee Davis reached double figures with 12 digs and
Georgia Quiroz had a team-high 18 assists.
In the first set, CTX trailed 20-12, but would rally with an 11-3 run capped by a Falcons error tying it up at 23-all. The Tornados were unable to complete the comeback though, dropping the set 25-23. In the following two sets, CTX was unable to halt CUW, losing 25-19 and 25-16 respectively.
Next up, the Tornados will participate in the Austin College Tournament, playing a doubleheader against Austin College and LeTourneau on Friday, Sept. 8, beginning at 4 p.m. in Sherman, Texas.
