Tornados roll past Schreiner

AUSTIN, Texas – Three different Tornados scored a goal in the first half and the Concordia Men's Soccer team ran away with their second win of the year, defeating Schreiner 3-1 on Friday.

The team totaled 22 shots on the night, eight of them on goal, including two shots by Eric Bigon hitting the post and then the crossbar and over preventing yet another Tornados (2-0-0, 0-0 ASC) goal. Goalkeeper Rob Oakley allowed his second goal of the season, including a clean sheet in the second half.

Bryan Luna put CTX on the board quickly, scoring in the 8th minute from just outside the box and into the right corner of the net to make it 1-0. It was his first of the season. Later, Arik Arrendondo would get in on the scoring, taking the pass from reigning American Southwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year Omar Aguirre, and firing it past the Mountaineers (2-1-0) keeper to give the Tornados a 2-0 lead in the 16th minute. It was Arredondo's first goal of the season as well.

Schreiner would cut the lead to 2-1 in the 21st minute. CTX would respond in the final minutes of the half though, as Zak Bergstrom found Aguirre in the box with a long cross and he was able to put it past the keeper in the 42nd minute and the Tornados extended their lead to 3-1. It was Aguirre's third goal of the season after his two-goal performance against Huston-Tillotson last Friday.

CTX was unable to add another goal in the second half, but held the Mountaineers scoreless and held on for a 3-1 win.

The Tornados have a quick turnaround as they will host Texas Lutheran on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas to complete their three-game homestand.
