Berger records career-high in loss to McMurry

ABILENE, Texas – Payton Berger set a new career-high for the second straight game, scoring 18 points, but the Concordia Texas women's basketball team fell to McMurry 71-56 on Thursday.

Berger shot 60 percent from the floor and was 6-7 from the free-throw line, coming up a rebound short of her second double-double of the season.

The Tornados went back-and-forth with the War Hawks early on, led by Desiray Davis, who had eight first-quarter points as CTX trailed by three after one quarter.

Despite scoring only a point in the first quarter, Berger would catch fire in the second, scoring six of the Tornados' 15 points, but trailed 36-26 at the midway point as McMurry knocked down six first-half three-pointers.

In the second half, CTX would hold the War Hawks to 36 percent shooting from the field, but they went 16-20 from the free-throw line, outscoring the Tornados 35-30 to take the game 71-56.

Ellison would reach double figures, finishing with 11 points, while Kaycie Dunkerley grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds and added five points.

Up next, the Tornados will remain in Abilene, Texas to face Hardin-Simmons on Saturday at 2 p.m. with CTX looking to snap their losing streak.
