BELTON, Texas –
Georgia Quiroz posted her sixth straight double-double, but it was not enough as the Concordia Texas volleyball team came up short 3-0 to UT Dallas on Saturday in the American Southwest Conference Tournament semifinals.
The Tornados were making their third conference semifinals appearance in the last four years, facing the Comets, the ASC East one seed. Concordia Texas would fall in straight sets, 15-25, 18-25, 22-25.
In the opening set, the Tornados fell behind early and were unable to recover, dropping it 25-15.
In set two, CTX would go toe-to-toe with UTD, trailing 10-9 early on. The Comets would use a 5-1 run though to pull away, going on to take the set 25-18.
In the final set, the Tornados jumped out to an 8-5 lead after a double block by Quiroz and
Marjani Myles. UT Dallas would respond with a 7-1 run to take their first lead of the set.
Concordia Texas would fight to the end, winning four of five points late to cut it to 23-22 before back-to-back Comets points closed out the match 25-22.
Massey finished with a game-high 11 kills, while
Rylee Davis and
Brooke Keltgen each had 11 digs for the match.
The Tornados' season ends in the ASC semis for the second year in a row after a season in which they tied the program record for conference wins in a single season, had multiple ASC All-Conference selections for the first time since the 2000 season and six total conference selections, the most since 2013.
