AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's basketball team got 23 points from
Joe Neal, but it was not enough as they dropped a 96-81 decision to No. 10 Wisconsin-Whitewater Saturday night at Concordia Fieldhouse.
Neal, a senior from Houston, added five rebounds and six assists in the loss as CTX fell to 3-9 on the season while the Warhawks remained unbeaten.
Wisconsin-Whitewater came out of the gates hot, using an 18-1 run to take a 20-6 lead early in the first half.
The Tornados were able to keep the game within reach, however, never allowing the deficit to grow to more than 14 and trailing 49-39 heading into halftime.
Coming out of the break, CTX opened the second half with an 8-2 run capped off by a free throw from
Philip Meikle to make the score 51-47.
Leading 70-65 late in the contest, the Warhawks put the game away with a 14-3 run to take a 16-point lead with 4:17 left to play.
For the Tornados, Neal, Meikle,
Ronnie Hamilton and
DeTarrius Kirk all scored in double figures with Meikle producing 19 and Hamilton and Kirk adding 11 and 12, respectively.
Melvin Brown led the way for Wisconsin-Whitewater with 21 points and 14 rebounds in the win.
Next up, CTX returns to action with a New Year's Day matchup against Covenant (Ga.) at 1:00 p.m. inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
