Harper, Tornados overwhelm Howard Payne

AUSTIN, Texas – Summer Harper went 3-for-4 from the plate, including a pair of home runs, and the Concordia Texas softball team totaled 20 hits in a 12-3 win to sweep Howard Payne on Saturday.

The Tornados' 20 hits are the third-most in a game in program history, as the team scored at least one run in every inning.

Harper would start CTX off with a two-run shot in the first inning, her second consecutive day with a home run, as the Tornados jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

The Yellow Jackets would get a run back in the bottom half of the inning to make it 2-1, but CTX respond with a run in the second and a five-spot in the third.

The Tornados opened the third with seven straight hits, including four doubles in the inning, and CTX would lead 8-1 after three frames.

The Tornados would score a pair of runs each in the fourth and fifth innings, including Harper going deep once again, and went on to win by run-rule 12-3 in five innings.

Olivia Kaase and Payton Walker would also finish the game with three hits each for CTX, while Dennett went 2-for-3 with two RBIs on the day.

Up next, the Tornados return home for a three-game set with No. 12 East Texas Baptist. The teams will face off in a doubleheader on Friday, playing at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
