TYLER, Texas – The Concordia Texas softball team wrapped up their historic season after falling 6-1 to #14 East Texas Baptist in the American Southwest Conference semifinal game Sunday at Suddenlink Field.
The Tornados finished the season with a 25-18 record, tied for the second-most wins in program history and advanced to the ASC Semifinals for the first time since the 2000 season.
The CTX pitching staff also closes the year with a 2.52 ERA and 190 strikeouts, both of which are the best marks in school history. Additionally, the Tornados end the season with a .304 team batting average, the third best average in program history.
ETBU struck first in the top half of the first inning on a solo homer. The Tigers then extended the lead to 2-0 on a sacrifice fly in the third.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Tornados got a run back when
Brittani Whitten lifted her eighth homer of the season over the right center field wall. Whitten, a senior from Roseville, Calif., closes her CTX career with a .383 career batting average, the second-best mark in program history.
The Tigers scored three runs in the top of the fifth to extend the lead and added a run in the sixth to make the score 6-1.
Olivia Kaase led the Tornados at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a couple of singles.
Along with Whitten, the Tornados say goodbye to seniors
Alyssa Autrey,
Katie Daniel,
Ryan Gibson,
Morgan Loredo and
Alexia Rowe.
Both Whitten and
Jorden Russell were named to the all-tournament team for their stellar performances.
