ABILENE, Texas – Three players scored in double figures, but it was not enough as Concordia Texas men's basketball team saw its two-game win streak come to end against Hardin-Simmons, falling 76-67 on Thursday.
Ronnie Hamilton led with a team-high 16 points, including knocking down three buckets from behind the arc, and dished out five assists.
It was a back-and-forth saga in the first half with four lead changes between the Tornados and Cowboys.
Concordia Texas would take its biggest lead of the half after Quentin Crawford's jumper made it 19-15 halfway through the period.
Hardin-Simmons, thought, would knock down a jumper at the buzzer to close out the first half and held a 34-31 edge as the teams headed to the locker room.
In the second half,
Spencer Bone, who is coming off his first career conference player of the week award, would come alive from behind the arc, knocking down back-to-back 3-pointers to knot it up at 41-all.
Bone would finish with a near double-double, scoring 11 points and snagging nine rebounds for the game.
Leading 46-45, the Cowboys responded with an 11-0 run to take a double-digit lead with 8:34 to play. The Tornados would seek a comeback late in the game, but fell short to HSU, losing 76-67.
Joe Neal, meanwhile, finished with 12 points, and now sits 26 points away from reaching the 1,500-point mark in his career.
