ABILENE, Texas –
Molly Gideon scored a career-high 11 points as the Concordia Texas women's basketball team fell short to Hardin-Simmons on Thursday 71-51.
The Tornados had 10 players recorded at least a point in the scorebook against the Cowgirls, led by Gideon's 11 points. The freshman out of Haslet, Texas, knocked down three shots from the floor and went 4-of-6 from the free-throw line for the game.
Concordia Texas would start hot, scoring seven of the game's first nine points after
Payton Berger's pair of free throws. Hardin-Simmons would finish the first quarter strong though, outscoring the Tornados 17-5 the rest of the way.
In the second quarter,
Kaycie Dunkerley would knock down her second 3-pointer of the game, inching her one-step closer to the program's single-season record. She now sits one 3-pointer away from tying the record of 70 in a single season set by
Emily Cullers during the 2016-17 season.
At the end of the first half, CTX trailed 31-20.
In the second half, Berger would find her groove, scoring five of the team's 14 points in the third quarter. She would finish a point shy of a double-double, pulling down 10 boards along with nine points.
The Tornados would have their biggest scoring output of the night in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough, falling 71-51 to the Cowgirls.
Concordia Texas will look to end their skid against McMurry on Saturday in Abilene, Texas, facing the War Hawks at 1 p.m. inside the Kimbrell Arena.
