BELTON, Texas –
Tristyn Massey had a game-high 15 kills and
Georgia Quiroz registered a double-double, but the Concordia Texas volleyball team fell short to Mary Hardin-Baylor 3-0 on Thursday at the Mayborn Campus Center.
The Tornados went toe-to-toe with the Cru, but could not complete the comeback, falling in straight sets 22-25, 22-25 and 16-25 for only their second loss in their last seven matches.
In the opening set, CTX fell behind 6-2 after four straight UMHB points. The Tornados would regroup and rally though, going on an 11-4 run to take a three-point advantage.
Neither team had a bigger lead than four points in the set, but CTX fell short and trailed 1-0 in match.
In the second set, the Tornados trailed by one early in the period, but reeled off four straight points after a Quiroz service ace to take a 10-7 advantage. Late in set, trailing 20-23,
Sam Mendez and Massey hit back-to-back kills to cut the deficit to one, but dropped the set and trailed 2-0.
In the final set, CTX pulled within one after a UMHB error, but were never able to take the lead in the set and fell to the Cru in three sets.
Massey nearly finished with a double-double, recording 15 kills and eight digs, while Quiroz tallied a team-high 19 assists along with a team-high 14 digs.
Kyndall Ellis and
Sarah Ghormley, meanwhile, both reached double figures in digs, finishing with 13 and 10, respectively.
Next, the Tornados will compete in a round-robin on Saturday in Belton, Texas, facing Austin College at 2:30 p.m. followed by a matchup against Texas Lutheran at 6:30 p.m.
