Natalie Velardez and
Kaycie Dunkerley each finished with 17 points, but it was not enough for the Concordia Texas women's basketball team, falling 88-62 to Albion College on Monday in the final day of the UTD Classic.
Velardez, a freshman out of Levelland, Texas, shot 5-of-12 from the field, including a 4-of-9 mark from behind the arc to record a career-high 17 points.
Dunkerley, meanwhile, fresh off her second career American Southwest Conference West Division Player of the Week award, shot 40 percent from downtown for her third double-digit performance in her last four games.
In the first half, Velardez and Dunkerley led the way for the Tornados, scoring 23 of the team's 32 points.
Concordia Texas began the game in an offensive groove, hitting three of their first four shots, opening on an 8-2 run. Dunkerley registered eight points in the frame and the Tornados led 18-14 after one.
In the second quarter, Velardez scored six points in the frame, but the Britons outscored CTX 21-14 in the period and led 35-32 at the midway point.
In the third quarter, Albion only missed two shots in the period, breaking open with game with a 35-point quarter and led 70-47 after three.
The Tornados were unable to stage a comeback in the final quarter, falling 88-62.
Concordia Texas will return to the court on Jan. 2 to host UT Dallas in their home conference opener at 5:30 p.m. inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
