All-around attack leads Tornados past Arlington Baptist

AUSTIN, Texas – Six Tornados scored in double figures as the Concordia Texas men's basketball team dished out a season-high 22 assists and forced 28 turnovers, defeating Arlington Baptist 104-86 on Tuesday inside Concordia Fieldhouse.

The Tornados had an all-around offensive attack against the Patriots, led by Antoine Henderson, who shot 7-of-9 from the field for a team-high 15 points. Concordia Texas had a productive night from its bench, totaling 65 points for the game.

In the first half, ABU used an early 8-1 spurt to take a 16-9 lead, their largest advantage of the game. The Tornados responded quickly though, reeling off 10 straight points, capped off by a Philip Meikle 3-pointer.

Meikle dealt with foul trouble throughout the night, finishing the game with 11 points, five assists and three steals before fouling out in the second half.

Despite shooting 41 percent from the field, CTX held a 53-47 edge at halftime after forcing 17 Patriots turnovers to produce 21 points.

Trevon Hester lead the way for the Tornados, scoring 10 of his 14 points in the first half, including going a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.

In the second half, CTX's defense stayed active, forcing 11 ABU turnovers for 19 points. Meanwhile, on the offensive end, the Tornados shot 46 percent from the floor, outscoring the Patriots 51-39 in the period.

Concordia Texas opened the half on an 8-2 run, taking their largest lead of the game at that point after Hester knocked down the short jumper.

The Tornados began to pull away from the Patriots midway through the half, using a 22-8 run to take their biggest lead of the night at 88-64.  Henderson shot 5-of-5 from the field in the half, scoring 10 of his 15 points in the second frame as CTX went on to claim a 104-86 victory.

Spencer Bone, Alexander Estrada and Greg Harbor all finished in double figures as well for the Tornados as they recorded their first home win of the season.

Next, CTX will travel down to Houston on Saturday for an exhibition game against Texas Southern at 3 p.m. Following their exhibition game, the Tornados will return to Division III and open conference play on the road against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.
