SEGUIN, Texas –
Simone Langland would allow only two runs in a complete game win as the Concordia Texas softball team split a pair of games with No. 13 Texas Lutheran on Tuesday.
In the first game of the night, it was a pitchers' duel, but not before the Tornados struck first, scoring three runs in the second inning.
Ashley Hallmark led off the second with a double, followed by a
Mycahla Howard walk. After a sac bunt moved the runners over, Garcia ripped an RBI single and reached second on the throw home, giving the Tornados the lead.
Concordia Texas would add on two more runs in the inning thanks to a Bulldogs' wild pitch scoring Howard, followed by a
Miranda Mueller sac bunt, scoring Garcia, to make it 3-0.
It was all Langland would need. After allowing a lone TLU run in the bottom half of the inning, she would shut down the Bulldogs, allowing only one hit over the next four frames.
In the seventh, Langland looked to close it out. After a TLU leadoff home run to cut the lead to 3-2, Langland induced back-to-back ground outs. The Bulldogs would not go down without a fight though as the next three batters reached, loading the bases. Langland would not break, getting the fly out to center as the Tornados held on for the win.
It is CTX's first win over a ranked team since defeating No. 14 East Texas Baptist back on May 4 in the conference tournament.
In game two of the night, the Bulldogs would score in every frame, including a five-run third inning, and won by run-rule 8-0 after five innings.
Brianna Heredia would go 2-for-2 from the plate as the Tornados tallied five hits for the game.
Concordia Texas would look to extend the game in the fifth after back-to-back one-out singles by
Kayla Patton and Heredia, but a
Haley Dennett line out would turn into a double play ending the game.
Next, the Tornados will return home to open conference play when they will host Ozarks on Friday in a doubleheader, beginning at 5 p.m. at Tornado Softball Field.
