AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team swept all six singles matches and opened the season on a high note, defeating Schreiner 8-1 on Saturday.
The Tornados would open the match, taking two of three in doubles over the Mountaineers.
At line one, ITA All-American
Joshua Bode and
Esteban Arredondo picked up an 8-5 winning decision, while
Jorge Garcia and
Hoanh Le won at line two, 8-4.
In singles, CTX would win five of the six matches in straight sets.
Bode, Arredondo and
Adam Compton would all cruise at lines one, three, and four, respectively.
At line two, Le shutout Joshua Newman in the first set before battling back in the second set and winning the tiebreaker 7-4. Garcia, meanwhile, split the first two sets at line five before earning a 10-8 win in the third.
Evan Pena Jr. would close out the victory for the Tornados at line six with back-to-back 6-0 set scores.
Next, CTX will face Southwestern in a non-conference matchup on Feb. 22.
