Tornados come up short against St. Mary's (IN.)

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's tennis team would rally in the singles matches, including a win at line one by Alexis Popovich, but came up short to St. Mary's (IN.), falling 6-3 on Friday.

On a windy morning, the Tornados would fall behind early, dropping all three doubles matches.

Leyla Martinez and Elaina Evans would go back and forth at line two against the Belles' Lilly Chamberlin and Meredith Heckert, but gave up a break point and lost the match 8-6.

In the singles matches, CTX would mount a comeback. Genna Ellinwood would get a point back at line six, winning her match in dominating fashion 6-0, 6-1.

Claire Austin, Camille Kempf and Evans would all battle, but come up short at line three, four, and five, respectively.

The Tornados would finish the day strong though as Popovich picked up a win at line one in a convincing straight set victory, while Martinez would bounce back in a decisive third set super tiebreaker, winning it 10-7 to grab another point at line two.

Next, CTX will head out on the road for a three-match trip, facing Centenary and LeTourneau on Friday, followed by a match against East Texas Baptist on March 23.

The Tornados will take on the Ladies at 11 a.m. followed by its matchup with the Yellow Jackets at 4 p.m. with both matches being played in Longview, Texas.
