ABILENE, Texas – The Concordia Texas softball team rallied late with four runs in the seventh inning, but it was not enough, coming up short to Hardin-Simmons 13-10 in the series finale on Saturday.
Summer Harper and
Diana Payne would each tally two hits as the teams would go back and forth throughout the game.
The Tornados would open the scoring in the third inning with three runs.
Brianna Heredia would start off the inning with a single and score on the next at-bat as
Haley Dennett doubled into center to make it 1-0. Concordia Texas was not done, taking advantage of an HSU error to continue the inning, score two more runs, and make it 3-0.
The Cowgirls would come right back with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning and knotted it up at 3-all after three frames.
The Tornados would respond in the fifth with another three-run inning.
After an HSU error and a hit by pitch, Payne singled to load up the bases.
Miranda Mueller would break the tie with an RBI ground out before
Summer Harper cleared the bases with a two-run double to right-center and push CTX's lead to 6-3.
The Cowgirls would once again respond with a three-run outburst in the bottom half of the inning and tie it at 6-6.
Hardin-Simmons would take their first lead of the game with a seven-run sixth and went up 13-6 going into the final frame.
The Tornados would push across four runs, but it was not enough, as they fell 13-10 to close out the series.
Concordia Texas will next return home to host UT Tyler. They will face the Patriots on Tuesday in a doubleheader at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Tornado Softball Field followed by the series finale on Wednesday.
