Tornados shutout Centenary, LeTourneau to push win streak to four

LONGVIEW, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team were dominate on the courts on Friday, posting back-to-back 9-0 wins over Centenary and LeTourneau to extend their win streak to four.

The Tornados had double-duty on the day, playing the Gents of Centenary in the morning match and then opening up conference play in the late afternoon as they faced the Yellow Jackets of LeTourneau.

Against Centenary, CTX was dominate from the first serve, dropping only three games as a team, going on to win the match 9-0. Evan Pena Jr. and Adam Compton tag-teamed for a win at line one doubles and followed up with straight set wins in their singles matches at line three and one, respectively.

Jorge Garcia and Noah Villarreal continued the theme of the shutout, taking home an 8-0 win at line three doubles and both would go on to blank their opponent in each set of their singles wins at line two and six, respectively.

At line two doubles, Ethan Espiritu and Corbin Hayes would handle their business for an 8-0 win. Espiritu, playing at line four singles, would make quick work with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, while his teammate, Hayes, at line five, would close out the team match with a straight set win.

In the second match of the day, the Tornados would be tested early on but came with the same results, a 9-0 win over LeTourneau to begin American Southwest Conference play.

Concordia Texas would take a commanding 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles matches, including Joshua Bode and Esteban Arredondo grinding out an 8-7 win at line one.

In the singles matches, the Tornados would once again not face a third set, completing the shutout of the Yellow Jackets.

Hoanh Le, playing at line two, would go up on a break point in the first set and went on to a 7-5, 6-2 win. Pena Jr. would face a tiebreaker in the first set, edging out Bobby Clark 7-5, and take complete control in the second set with a 6-1 decision.

Bode and Arredondo would pick up their second wins of the match, taking line one and three singles, respectively, while Garcia and Espiritu closed out the match with their fourth wins of the day, winning at line five and six, respectively.

Concordia Texas will have double duty once again on Saturday, facing East Texas Baptist at 9 a.m. in Marshall, Texas, followed by a showdown with Trinity at 3:30 p.m. in Richardson, Texas.
