MARSHALL, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis won their fifth match in a row, pulling out a 5-4 win over East Texas Baptist before falling 9-0 to Trinity on Saturday.
The Tornados continued their five-match road trip, facing the Tigers in an American Southwest Conference matchup in the morning.
Concordia Texas would surge ahead, taking two of the three doubles matches.
Joshua Bode and
Esteban Arredondo paired up at line one to defeat ETBU 8-4, while
Adam Compton and
Evan Pena Jr. made quick work of their opponent at line three with an 8-1 decision.
In the singles, Bode would notch his second win of the day with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at line one. Arredondo would earn the Tornados their fourth point of the day, winning at line three 6-1, 6-4.
The team match, tied at four-all, would come down to line five, where Compton faced the Tigers' Adam Morns. After splitting the first two sets, Compton would come out on top in the decisive third set, winning it 7-5 to secure the team win for the Tornados, their fifth in a row and second in conference play.
Next, CTX traveled up the road to Dallas for a non-conference match against No. 17 Trinity, where they would see their streak snapped, falling 9-0.
The Tornados would battle in the doubles matches, where Bode and Arredondo were only broken once, but came up short at line one, 8-6.
Trailing 3-0 heading into the singles matches, CTX looked to rally, but were unable to snag a win.
Up next, the Tornados will stay on the road, facing ASC foe UT Dallas in Richardson, Texas on Friday at 1 p.m., followed by a matchup on Saturday against Howard Payne at 10 a.m. in Brownwood, Texas.
