AUSTIN, Texas –
Adam Compton and
Evan Pena Jr. would pull out a win at line three doubles and the Concordia Texas men's tennis team would roll to their fourth straight win and remain undefeated in conference play, taking down McMurry 7-2 on Thursday.
The win continues the Tornados' best season in program history, pushing them to 10 victories for the season.
In doubles, CTX would fall behind early to the War Hawks, losing at line one.
Hoanh Le and
Jorge Garcia would even it up at one apiece though, grabbing an 8-3 win at line two.
Evan Pena Jr. and
Adam Compton would give the Tornados the lead for good with a win at line three. Knotted at seven-all, Compton and Pena Jr. would pick up a crucial break point and go on to take the match 9-7.
In singles,
Esteban Arredondo and Pena Jr. would handle their business, winning in straight sets at line three and four, respectively.
At line two, Le would outlast McMurry's Chase Daniel, winning in two sets, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3). Garcia, meanwhile, facing Zach Miller at line six, would take the first set 6-2 and come away with a tiebreaker win in the second set, winning it 7-6 (7-3).
Compton would close out CTX's win with a three-set thriller at line five. After splitting the first two sets, Compton would edge the War Hawks' Joseph Diaz in the third, winning it 10-8.
The Tornados will have a quick turnaround, facing Hardin-Simmons on Friday at 1 p.m. on the campus of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
