AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team continued their best season in school history, rolling to an 8-1 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor to finish undefeated in conference play and clinch the program's first-ever American Southwest Conference West Division title on Friday.
The Tornados finish the regular season 12-2 (5-0 ASC), their best season ever in the program's four-year history, capped off by winning the ASC West Division title and locking up the No. 1 seed for the ASC Tournament which is set to begin on Thursday.
Concordia Texas were focused from the start, winning all three doubles matches to take an early lead into singles.
Adam Compton and
Evan Pena Jr. took care of business at line three, winning it 8-3.
Esteban Arredondo and
Jorge Garcia would pick up another point at line two, pulling out an 8-6 victory.
Joshua Bode and
Hoanh Le, meanwhile, playing at line one, would be knotted at six-all before winning the final two games to complete the doubles sweep.
In singles, CTX would continue to dominate the Cru, winning five of the six matches.
Bode and Le would barely break a set, as each won 6-0, 6-2, at line one and two, respectively.
Esteban Arredondo would finish off Cole Weiss at line three, taking it 6-3, 6-2, while
Adam Compton had to battle back from a set down, to pull out a 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 win at line four.
Pena Jr. would close out the match with a 6-3, 7-5 win at line six to secure the undefeated conference season and the program's first-ever division title.
The Tornados will now turn their attention to the ASC Tournament, which will run from April 25-27, and will be hosted by the east division's top seed, LeTourneau.
Concordia Texas will be making their fourth-straight ASC Tournament appearance and will face Louisiana College in the first round on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in Longview, Texas.
