Tornados drop 1-0 decision to St. Thomas (TX)

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's soccer team racked up 16 shots, including 11 in the second half alone, but came up short in scoring an equalizer, falling 1-0 to St. Thomas (TX) on Sunday.

The Tornados dominated possession throughout the game, but the Celts would strike first, opening the scoring with a goal in the 9th minute after a scramble in the box off a corner kick.

Concordia Texas looked to level it up in the first half, but came up empty. Landon Nelson had a late scoring opportunity in the closing seconds of the half, but his shot went wide and the Tornados trailed 1-0 at the break.

In the second half, CTX maintained possession in the final third of the field for the majority of the 45 minutes and only allowed two UST shots.

The Tornados continued to press offensively, registering three corner kicks in the second half alone. Rodrigo Arellano nearly brought CTX level in the 80th minute, but his shot went over the bar.

Concordia Texas had one last goal-scoring opportunity come in the 89th minute, but Marco Vazquez's shot from the left side of the box went wide as the Tornados fell 1-0.

Next, the Tornados will open conference play on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. when they host East Texas Baptist at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas.
