AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's basketball team shot 61 percent from the field, led by
Antoine Henderson's game-high 21 points, and rolled past McMurry 98-76 on Thursday inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
The Tornados were in an offensive groove throughout the game, hitting 11-of-22 from behind the arc, while outscoring the War Hawks 50-30 in the paint.
Henderson defined efficiency for CTX, scoring 21 points on 11 shots and snagging six boards, including three on the offensive end. It is Henderson's fifth double-digit scoring output of the season.
The Tornados broke open the game early, reeling off 11 straight points to take a 14-3 lead after
Alexander Estrada knocked down one of his three 3-pointers on the night.
Concordia Texas finished the first half 7-of-12 from 3-point land, led by
Philip Meikle, who hit three 3-pointers and finished with 14 points in the period.
The Tornados took control of the game late in the first half, using a 20-6 run to take their largest lead after
Trevon Hester sank a free throw. Concordia Texas shot 59 percent from the field in the frame and took a 54-35 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, the Tornados continued their offensive dominance, while shutting down McMurry on the defensive side of the ball, holding the War Hawks to 41 percent shooting from the floor.
Henderson shot a perfect 5-of-5 from the field for 11 points as eight different CTX players scored in the half. Estrada's 3-pointer with 7:02 left in the game capped off a Tornados' 23-10 run and created their biggest lead of the night with a 91-59 advantage.
The War Hawks looked to stage a comeback late in the half, but CTX was resilient, routing McMurry 98-76 for their first conference win of the season.
Meikle finished the night with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while
Tommy Holiday and Estrada added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Gonzalo Munoz, meanwhile, was a rebounding machine, pulling down a career-high nine rebounds in the win.
Concordia Texas will go for their second win in a row when they host Hardin-Simmons on Saturday at 3 p.m. inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
