Hoke's performance not enough as Tornados fall to Belhaven in series finale

AUSTIN, Texas – Katie Hoke had a 3-for-4 day, including an RBI triple , but the Concordia Texas softball team fell late to Belhaven 11-5 on Saturday in the series finale.

The Tornados and Blazers were deadlocked in a 3-3 tie after the game's first four frames with neither team able to score till the seventh.

Belhaven broke the game open in the seventh inning, batting around and scoring eight runs on nine hits to make it 11-3.

In the bottom half of the inning, after Hailee Tinajero was hit by a pitch, Katie Hoke ripped a triple to left center to cut it to 11-4. Hoke would score on Samantha Lopez's single as CTX loaded the bases after Danielle Diaz worked a one-out walk.

The game ended in the next at-bat though as Summer Harper grounded into a double play and the Tornados fell to the Blazers 11-5.

Hoke finished with three hits on the day, scoring twice and the RBI triple, while Ashely Hallmark had her third two-hit game of the series, scoring two runs and registering a pair of steals.

Hallmark now has 14 steals on the season and is only nine away from the program's single-season record of 23 set by Jodi Hierholzer during the 2009 season.

Maddy Ellison, meanwhile, had a hit and two RBIs, driving in Hoke and Hallmark on an infield single in the Tornados' two-run third inning.

Next, Concordia Texas will head out on the road for a conference showdown against Louisiana College, beginning a three-game series on Friday with a doubleheader at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Pineville, La.
