AUSTIN, Texas –
Trevon Hester shot 50% from the field, scoring a team-high 15 points, but it was not enough as the Concordia Texas men's basketball team fell short to Louisiana College 73-62 on Saturday.
Hester scored in double figures for the third straight game to begin the season, shooting 6-of-12 from the field and snagged a team-high five rebounds, but the Tornados could not keep the Wildcats out of the paint as they scored nearly half their points around the basket.
In the first half, CTX were unable to find their shooting touch, shooting 37.5% from the floor, while the Wildcats knocked down half their shots to open up a double-digit lead early on.
Antoine Henderson carried the Tornados' offense in the half, scoring eight of his 11 points after going 4-of-6 from the field, while
Grant Goosby added seven points, but CTX headed to the locker room trailing 43-28.
In the second half, LC would take their largest lead of the game after a Wildcats' basket made it 47-29 with 18:37, but the Tornados would not go down easily.
Hester, who scored seven points in the half, aided CTX's comeback, cutting the deficit to 62-52 with 6:06 to play after knocking down a jumper in the paint.
The Tornados were unable to draw any closer though as LC maintained their double-digit advantage, going on to defeat CTX 73-62.
Goosby finished with 13 points along with three rebounds before fouling out, while
Spencer Bone shot 50% from the floor for nine points.
Next, the Tornados will head back out on the road, facing off against McMurry on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Abilene, Texas, seeking their first conference win of the season.
