ABILENE, Texas –
Rick Platas continued his remarkable year for the Concordia Texas Cross Country team, running the second fastest time in school history with a mark of 26:43.5 to finish fourth overall at the Bill Libby Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
Platas, the junior out of Premont, Texas, who set the program's 8K record time back on Set. 24 at the Concordia Classic, continued to rewrite the record book on Saturday morning as he recorded the second-fastest time in program history.
He would finish fourth overall in the meet, crossing the finish line in a time of 26:43.5 to lead the men's team to a third place finish with 97 points.
Platas now owns the top three fastest 8K times in the school record book.
Freshman
Kamron Loaera, meanwhile, set a personal-best, finishing in a time of 27:16.1 and crossed the finish line in ninth.
Sam Stewart saw his best performance of the season, running a time of 28:22.6 and finishing 25th overall, while
Jacob Ismir placed 33nd after recording a time of 28:53.5.
Teammate
Thomas Hughes was not far behind Ismir, taking 35th with a time of 29:00.1.
Jeremy Longoria followed, finishing 40th overall with a time of 29:19.1.
Nathan Luevano rounded out the Tornados' team score, finishing 49th and a time of 29:44.2.
On the women's side,
Meghan Kevil was the top CTX runner.
The senior out of Crawford, Texas, finished the 6K race in a season-best time of 28:41.5 to take 37th overall.
Kendall Simpson wrapped up the Tornados' day, finishing 50th with a personal-best time of 33:16.8.
Next, the Tornados will prepare for the American Southwest Conference Championships, which will be held on Oct. 30 in Clarksville, Ark., by the University of the Ozarks.
The men's race, an 8K event, will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the women's 6K race at 10:15 a.m.
