Tornados fall to Mary Hardin-Baylor in regular season finale

BELTON, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's soccer team tallied nine shots on the night, but were unable to convert, falling to Mary Hardin-Baylor 2-0 in the team's regular season finale on Friday.

The Tornados entered having won their last six games and unbeaten in their previous nine contests, but the offense was stymied by the Cru, putting only five shots on frame for the game.

Concordia Texas fell behind early as UMHB scored the game's first goal in the opening minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Xavier Polk nearly evened the game in the 15th minute, but the Cru's Dalton Lloyd was there for the save. The Tornados fired off seven shots in the first half, but headed to the locker room facing a 1-0 deficit.

In the second half, Marco Vazquez, who leads the team in goals this season, recorded a pair of shots but both went wide of the goal.

Mary Hardin-Baylor added to their lead with a goal in the 75th minute and CTX was unable to mount a late comeback, suffering their first defeat since Sept. 19.

The Tornados will now look ahead to the American Southwest Conference Tournament, entering as the two seed. They will host Belhaven in a quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday at a time to be determined at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas.
