Tornados' historic season ends in opening round of NCAA Tournament

TACOMA, Wash. – After earning the program's first American Southwest Conference Championship, the Concordia Texas men's soccer team's historic run came to an end as they fell 2-0 to Redlands in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.

The Tornados' incredible postseason run ended in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. This is CTX's first national tournament bid, earning their spot in the dance after running the table in the ASC Tournament.

The two teams battled the elements as well as each other, playing the entire match in heavy rain, and the Tornados were unable to overcome an early disadvantage after falling down 1-0. Ultimately, CTX fell 2-0 to Redlands.

The Bulldogs began the match aggressively, firing two shots in the opening seven minutes before breaking through for a goal in the 18th minute, putting the Tornados in an early 1-0 hole.

Next, the Tornados began to push the pace offensively as Xavier Polk recorded a shot in the 22nd minute and Antonio Rios fired on-goal in the 23rd minute. However, Redlands did not let up, and they knocked in their second goal in the 29th minute, taking a 2-0 lead.

Carlos Huato fired another shot in the half, but the Tornados were unable to cut into the lead. At the halfway point, CTX trailed 2-0.

The Tornados fired six shots in the second half, including two on-goal from Richard Aguirre and Victor Gomez, but were unable to cut into Redlands' advantage. After 90 minutes, CTX fell 2-0.

With the 2021 season at its end, Concordia Texas will say farewell to the team's three seniors, Victor Gomez, Zack Kusak, and Adrian Guerrero, but will return next season with a roster loaded with talent and experience and an ASC Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance under their belt.
