ABILENE, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's soccer team suffered a first-half goal and were unable to find an equalizer, falling 1-0 to Mary Hardin-Baylor in the ASC semifinals on Friday.
After falling down 1-0, the Tornados were unable to recover, and their 2021 campaign ended in the ASC semifinals. It is the second time in program history that CTX reached the semifinal match, the last appearance coming in 2011.
At the beginning of the match,
Kaley Kaspar fired a quick shot in the second minute, but she was unable to steal a goal in the opening minutes.
In the 25th minute, UMHB netted he game-winner, gaining a 1-0 advantage with the only goal of the match.
Marley Hennig fired a shot on-goal in the final minute of the first half, but a save from UMHB keeper kept the score at 1-0 heading into halftime.
In the 55th minute, a foul in the box led to a penalty kick for the Cru, but
Lora Tresco came away with a spectacular save to keep the score at 1-0.
Marissa Funk fired a shot on-goal in the 60th minute, but the Tornados were unable to break through for a goal and at the end of 90 minutes, CTX fell 1-0 to Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Concordia Texas finishes the season with a record of 10-8, 7-3 in ASC play, and becomes only the second team in program history to win an ASC Tournament match and advance to the semifinals.
The Tornados will bring back a strong group of returners next year, but will say good bye to
Haley Danford,
Emily Newton,
Anna Leffers, and
Hope Williams, the team's four seniors. With the season at a close, CTX will look towards the offseason and await their return to the pitch next fall.
