AUSTIN, Texas –
Chelsea Cogborn tied her career-high with a 10-point outing, but the Concordia Texas women's basketball team came up short, falling 69-51 to LeTourneau on Sunday inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
The Tornados, who returned to the court 24 hours after hosting UT Dallas on Saturday, had 14 different players record at least a point. Cogborn led the way, posting a near double-double, scoring a season-high 10 points and adding a team-high eight rebounds.
In the first quarter,
Mikayla Johnson and
Falyn Taylor each knocked down a 3-pointer, but were unable keep the YellowJackets off the boards, as they recorded six second-chance points in the period.
In the following quarter, Cogborn went 2-of-3 from the floor along with three rebounds, but the Tornados could not close the gap on LETU, who scored 12 of their second quarter points in the paint.
At halftime, CTX trailed the YellowJackets 35-22.
The Tornados had their best offensive showing of the afternoon in the third period, shooting 42% from the floor and scoring 18 points as a team.
Erin Toro,
Jennika Willis and
Kennedy Donovan each had four points in the quarter alone, but LETU found their shooting stroke as well, knocking down four 3-pointers and led 56-40 going into the final period.
In the fourth quarter, after trailing by as much as 22, CTX cut the deficit down to 56-42 after
Allie Garza knocked down a pair of free throws with 9:54 to go.
The YellowJackets responded though, going on a 9-2 run, and the Tornados were unable to mount a comeback, falling 69-51.
Concordia Texas will next return to the court on Dec. 30, traveling to Corpus Christi, Texas to take on Texas A&M – Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. in an exhibition game.
