GEORGETOWN, Texas –
Joshua Bode won both his doubles and singles matches, but it was not enough as the Concordia Texas men's tennis team fell short 6-3 to Southwestern on Wednesday.
The Tornados, playing in their first match since Feb. 6, were able to pick up a point in doubles as Bode, along with teammate
Esteban Arredondo, defeated the Pirates' Drew Shuvalov and Carlos Esteban 8-6 at line one.
Concordia Texas fell at lines two and three in doubles though and headed into singles play trailing 2-1.
In singles, Bode once again shined, outlasting SU's Vesko Lekovic at line one in a three-set thriller to win 6-0, 5-7, 6-3.
Meanwhile,
Evan Pena Jr., playing at line six, picked up the only other point for the Tornados on the night, overcoming an opening-set deficit for a 6-7, 6-3, 12-10 win, but it was not enough as CTX fell 6-3 in the team match.
Next, the Tornados will play UT-Rio Grande Valley on Monday in Belton, Texas with first serve set for 9 a.m.
