Tornados fall to Mary Hardin-Baylor despite strong showing from Gonzalez

TEMPLE, Texas – Luis Gonzalez posted double-digit points for the sixth straight game, but the Concordia Texas men's basketball team fell to Mary Hardin-Baylor 105-76 on Saturday.

Gonzalez scored 17 points on 8-of-17 shooting, and Alexander Estrada was a threat from deep, making four three-pointers and totaling 16 points.

The Tornados found themselves on the wrong end of a 16-0 run to start the game, but answered with a 16-6 run of their own behind a combined 13 points from Gonzalez and Tige Johnson, cutting the Cru's lead to 22-16 with 9:29 left in the half.

Mary Hardin-Baylor outscored the Tornados 32-19 in the final nine minutes of the half, and despite 11 first-half points from both Gonzalez and Estrada, CTX entered the locker room trailing 54-35 at halftime.

The Tornados found their footing offensively in the second half, scoring 41 points in the period, but were unable to overcome the deficit set in the first half, falling 105-76.

Grant Goosby recorded nine points in the game, shooting 2-of-3 from behind the arc, and Johnson posted eight points to go along with four rebounds.

The Tornados will look to bounce back, continuing their home stand with an ASC showdown against Howard Payne in Concordia Fieldhouse on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
