Tornados fall to No. 1 East Texas Baptist in series finale

MARSHALL, Texas – Simone Langland had a strong outing in relief as the Concordia Texas softball team took the field for the series finale against No. 1 East Texas Baptist, but it was not enough, the Tornados falling 7-0 on Saturday.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead, pushing two runs across in the first inning, and the Tornados trailed 2-0 after one.

In the second inning, the Tigers struck again, pushing two runs across before Langland entered the game to pitch, forcing a pop out and ending the ETBU threat. The Tornados trailed 4-0 entering the third frame.

In the top of the third inning, Megan Hooper and Ashley Hallmark picked up base hits, but CTX was unable to scratch across a run.

Langland settled into the circle, throwing three straight shutout frames, and the Tornados trailed 4-0 heading into the sixth inning.

East Texas Baptist put three more runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth, and took a 7-0 lead heading into the final frame.

The Tornados had one last chance in the seventh as Samantha Lopez worked a two-out walk, but ultimately CTX fell 7-0.

Landrei Stafford picked up a base hit in the game, and Hallmark stole her 37th career base, leaving her just one short of tying the program's career record held by Pepper Henderson.

The Tornados will look to bounce back as they continue conference play with a three-game series against Letourneau at home, beginning with a doubleheader on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
