SEGUIN, Texas –
Bailey Tisdale picked up her third win of the year, hurling a complete-game shutout, and the Concordia Texas softball team split a doubleheader with No. 2 Texas Lutheran on Wednesday.
Tisdale shutout TLU, scattering six hits and punching out three on the game. With her performance, the sophomore advanced to a 3-3 record with a 2.90 ERA on the season.
The only run of the game was scored by the Tornados in the top of the third, courtesy of an RBI groundout from
Erica Riley.
Kelsey Lowke led off the frame with a hit-by-pitch and moved station to station thanks to a sacrifice bunt from
Megan Hooper and a single from
Cristina Ayala.
Lowke eventually scored what would turn out to be the game-winning run on a great piece of situational hitting from Riley, and the Tornados took game one 1-0.
In the second game, the Tornados found themselves in an early hole that they were unable to climb out of, and despite a late-inning offensive outburst CTX dropped game two 7-5.
Texas Lutheran jumped out to an early lead, taking advantage of two CTX errors to give themselves a 3-0 advantage in the first inning.
The Bulldogs tacked on another run in the third inning with a solo blast, and the Tornados trailed 4-0 after three.
In the fifth inning, TLU capitalized on two more errors, adding three more runs to their total before
Lexi Bechtel entered the circle in relief and limited the damage. The Tornados found themselves down 7-0 with two innings left to play.
The Tornados were able to push across two runs in the sixth when
Emily Moses peppered a single into centerfield, bringing
Ashley Hallmark and
Landrei Stafford around to score, and the Tornados cut into the lead to bring the score to 7-2.
In the following frame, CTX picked up right where they left off. Hooper kick started the rally with a one-out walk, and Schmuck and Riley picked up back to back base knocks to load the bases. Stafford brought Hooper home with an RBI groundout, and Hallmark followed with an RBI single to bring the score to 7-4.
An error from the Bulldogs brought home another CTX run, but ultimately the Tornados could not overcome the deficit, falling 7-5 in the second game of the doubleheader.
Simone Langland started in the circle for the Tornados in game two, suffering three earned runs and picking up a strikeout in 4.2 innings of work.
Riley put together a 5-for-6 day with an RBI, and Hallmark picked up three base knocks to go along with an RBI.
Concordia Texas will have a quick turnaround, traveling to Abilene, Texas on Thursday to play another doubleheader. The Tornados will play two non-conference games, squaring off with Saint Thomas at 12 p.m. and Centenary at 3 p.m.
