AUSTIN, Texas –
Ky'Lexus Block recorded a double-double and 29 total kills as the Concordia Texas volleyball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Sul Ross State on Tuesday.
Prior to the start of the game, the Tornados celebrated senior day, honoring their four seniors
Georgia Quiroz,
Marjani Myles,
Rylee Davis, and
Ally Combs.
With the pair of wins against the Lobos, the Tornados extended their winning streak to five matches, all of which came in straight sets.
Block led the way with a double-double performance in game one, recording a team-high 20 kills and 11 digs, and CTX ended the match in three sets by defeating SRSU 25-15, 25-21, and 25-15.
In the first match, The Tornados dominated the opening set, jumping out to an 11-6 lead behind three early kills from Block and never looking back.
The second set began as a back-and-forth affair between the Tornados and the Lobos, eventually sitting at a 21-21 tie, but a kill from
Alyssa Legette capped off a 4-0 run for CTX to take the second set.
The Tornados took the third and final set in convincing fashion, going on a 10-0 run consisting of five kills from Block before a kill from
Jaya McCarty ended the match.
The second match was more of the same for the Tornados, taking the victory in three sets by scores of by 25-13, 26-24, and 24-15 behind 15 kills and seven digs from
Sarah Ghormley.
The Tornados dominated the first set, winning big behind six kills from
Nicole Deering and five from
Jaya McCarty.
The second set was tightly contested, but the Tornados came out on top by putting together a 6-1 run to come back from a 23-20 deficit. Block put the exclamation point on the set by ending things with a hard-hit kill.
The Tornados dominated the final set of the day, ending the match on an 11-3 run behind four kills from Ghormley.
Myles picked up 15 kills and a block, and
Laina DeLeon led the team with 27 digs. Quiroz recorded 71 assists and 18 digs on the day.
The Tornados will be back in action next Tuesday, traveling to Belton, Texas for their second doubleheader matchup against Mary Hardin-Baylor of the season at 5 and 7 p.m.
