KERRVILLE, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team swept all three doubles matches and never looked back, rolling past Schreiner 8-1 on Saturday for their fifth win in their last six matches.
The Tornados bounced back after suffering their first loss since Feb. 24 against Trinity on Friday, winning all three doubles matches over the Mountaineers.
Adrian Munguia and
Evan Pena Jr. were the first pair to wrap up their match, winning at line three 8-3.
Robin Van der Heijden and
Joeri Bregman followed with a win of their own at line one, 8-2.
Esteban Arredondo and
Michael Davis closed out the doubles matches with an 8-2 win as well and CTX led 3-0 heading into singles play.
In singles play, CTX continued their winning ways, winning at lines one through five.
Arredondo split the initial two sets, but claimed the point after winning the third set 7-6 (7-3). Pena Jr., meanwhile, outlasted Schreiner's Carson Kirk, grabbing a 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) win at line two.
Jorge Garcia and
Michael Davis each picked up straight set wins at line three and four, respectively.
Nico De La Pena closed out the win for the Tornados, winning at line five 6-4, 6-1 over the Mountaineers' Mario Gallinar.
Next up, CTX will open conference play, facing off against McMurry on March 27 at 1 p.m. at the River Place Country Club in Austin, Texas.
