ABILENE, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team did not lose a single match on the day, completing a dominant 9-0 sweep of Sul Ross State in its American Southwest Conference opener on Thursday.
The Tornados began their day with a 3-0 sweep in doubles play, starting with a commanding 8-1 victory by
Joshua Bode and
Esteban Arredondo at line one. Next, teammates
Robin Van der Heijden and
Joeri Bregman took a shutout victory at line two, coming out on top 8-0.
Corbin Hayes and Noah Villareal were the final pair to take the court in doubles play, cruising to another 8-0 victory to cap off a 3-0 run in doubles play from the Tornados.
After sweeping doubles play, the Tornados completed their 9-0 shutout by going 6-0 in singles play without losing a set.
Arredondo kicked things off for the Tornados, winning at line one in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.
Adrian Munguia followed at line two, completing a 6-0, 6-0 shutout in two sets, and
Evan Pena Jr. picked up a shutout victory of his own, taking a 6-0, 6-0 victory at line three.
Jorge Garcia was next for the Tornados, winning 6-1, 6-1 at line four, and
Michael Davis was responsible for the Tornados' third shutout victory in singles play, winning 6-0, 6-0 at line five.
Jesse West wrapped up the day for CTX with yet another shutout, winning 6-0, 6-0 at line six.
Concordia Texas will continue ASC play on Friday, facing off with Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, Texas at 11 a.m.
