MARSHALL, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team rallied from an early deficit, winning five of the six singles matches to secure their third straight win, defeating East Texas Baptist 6-3 on Saturday.
The Tornados had a rocky start to the match, dropping two of the three matches in doubles play.
Joeri Bregman and
Robin Van der Heijden salvaged a point for CTX at line two, taking down the Tigers' Dalton Barron and Noah Smistad 8-2.
In singles play, the Tornados found their footing and dominated, winning five of the six matches.
Esteban Arredondo started the rally for CTX, winning at line three 6-0, 7-5. East Texas Baptist pulled back in front after picking up a win at line two, but the
Joshua Bode and the Tornados quickly responded as he won at line one singles for fourth time this season, taking it 6-4, 6-1.
Evan Pena Jr. gave CTX the lead for good, taking care of business at line four with a 6-4, 6-0 win.
Jorge Garcia and
Michael Davis wrapped up the team win as they won at lines five and six, respectively.
Next up, the Tornados will travel to Waco, Texas for a non-conference match against UT Dallas at 3 p.m. The last time the two teams faced each other was in the 2019 conference championship match, where the Comets edged CTX 5-1.
