MARSHALL, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's tennis team, nearly pulled off the come-from-behind victory on Saturday, but came up short against East Texas Baptist on Saturday, losing 5-4.
The Tornados entered the match on a two-match winning streak, but faced the Tigers on short rest after their win over LeTourneau late Friday night.
Concordia Texas had an uphill battle from the starting, dropping all three doubles play matches.
In singles, the deficit grew to 4-0 as
Isabella Wiik fell at line one, but the Tornados would not go down without a fight.
Kaitlin Stevens began the comeback, grabbing a win at line four 6-3, 6-0.
Claire Austin picked up a point at line two, holding off ETBU's Ashley Schenck for a 6-4, 6-4 win.
Rachel Sweitzer pulled CTX within one after cruising to a win at line six handily, 6-0, 6-2.
At line three,
Alejandra Rueda, who lost the first set in heartbreaking fashion falling 7-5 in a tiebreaker, bounced back and pulled the Tornados even in the team match by winning the next two sets 6-2, 7-5.
In the decisive match at line five,
Emily Hines suffered a 7-2 loss in a first set tiebreaker and was unable to force a third set as she fell in the following set 6-4.
Concordia Texas will next play on March 27 when they will open conference play against McMurry at 1 p.m. in Austin, Texas at River Place Country Club.
