ABILENE, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team squared off with American Southwest Conference opponent Hardin-Simmons on the road Friday, suffering a 6-3 defeat.
The Tornados were unable to pick up a point in doubles play despite a hard-fought battle at line three from the duo of
Evan Pena Jr. and
Adrian Munguia, ending in an 8-7 defeat after a tiebreaker.
In singles play, CTX worked an even 3-3 split with the Cowboys.
Robin Van Der Heijden won the Tornados' first match of the day at line two, dropping the first set but fighting back to take the second set 7-6 after a tiebreaker and the third set 6-3.
Esteban Arredondo scored the second point for CTX, taking a straight-sets victory by a score of 7-5, 6-1 at line four. Munigia rounded out the Tornados score, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at line five.
The Tornados will look to bounce back when they continue ASC play on April 10, hosting Howard Payne at River Place Country Club in Austin, Texas at 1 p.m.
