AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team got back to its winning ways in quick fashion, rolling to a 9-0 sweep of Howard Payne on Saturday at River Place Country Club.
The Tornados, who were coming off their first conference loss of the season last week against Hardin-Simmons, bounced back by sweeping all the matches in doubles and singles play.
In doubles,
Joshua Bode and
Adrian Munguia took care of business at line one with an 8-3 victory.
Esteban Arredondo and
Michael Davis followed suit at line two, grabbing an 8-4 win, while
Evan Pena Jr. and
Nico De La Pena gave CTX a 3-0 lead as they cruised to an 8-3 win at line three.
In singles play, the Tornados dominated the Yellow Jackets, as none of the six matches went to a third set.
Bode and
Robin Van der Heijden won handily at line one and two, respectively. Meanwhile,
Joeri Bregman lost only two games total, picking up a 6-1, 6-1 victory at line three.
Munguia and Pena Jr. each recorded a shutout at line four and six, respectively, while Arredondo closed out the team win with a 6-3, 6-2 decision at line five.
Concordia Texas will continue their homestand, hosting conference foe Mary Hardin-Baylor on April 17 at 3 p.m. at the World of Tennis in Lakeway, Texas.
