Tornados slay the Crusaders 8-1

LAKEWAY, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team won all three doubles matches and never looked back, rolling to an 8-1 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday for their fourth win in their last five matches.

The Tornados, who were coming off a 9-0 shutout of Howard Payne last week, continued their dominating play against the Cru as four different players each had two wins on the afternoon.

In doubles play, Robin Van der Heijden and Joeri Bregman led the way at line one, grabbing an 8-4 win. Joshua Bode and Adrian Munguia teamed up at line two and picked up an 8-4 victory as well.

Esteban Arredondo and Michael Davis gave CTX a commanding 3-0 team lead, registering a shutout of UMHB's Thomas Knightstep and Ty Marshall at line three.

In singles play, it was all Tornados, who did not drop a single set in all five of their wins.

Bode recorded his sixth singles win of the season at line one, wrapping up his match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. Munguia, meanwhile, only dropped one game in each set in a quick win at line three.

Bregman dropped two games in the opening set at line four, and shut out his opponent 6-0 in the second set to pick up the win for CTX. Arredondo and Evan Pena Jr. closed out the 8-1 victory for the Tornados as each won 6-0, 6-0 at line five and six, respectively.

Concordia Texas will have a quick turnaround, welcoming McMurry into town for a conference showdown on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Austin Tennis Center in Austin, Texas.
