AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's tennis team began their three-match home stand with a win on Saturday, cruising to an 8-1 victory over Howard Payne at River Place Country Club.
 
The Tornados picked up the first three points of the day by sweeping doubles play, winning all three matches in convincing fashion.
 
Isabella Wiik and Natalia Goodman got the ball rolling with an 8-3 win at line one, followed by an 8-2 win at line two from the duo of Claire Austin and Kaitlin Stevens. Rachel Sweitzer and Emily Hines capped off doubles play with an impressive 8-0 rout at line three, securing a 3-0 start to the day for CTX.
 
Concordia Texas won all but one match in singles play, finishing their 8-1 victory over HPU.
 
Austin picked up the first victory in singles play, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 at line two, and Goodman followed with a straight sets victory of her own, taking down HPU's Katelynn Lovel at line three 6-2, 6-1.
 
Next, Alejandra Rueda picked up a win in two sets at line four 6-3, 6-0, and Hines followed suit with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at line five.
 
Sweitzer rounded out singles play for the Tornados, winning 6-0, 6-1 in straight sets at line six.
 
With the win, the Tornados advance to 5-3, 2-1 ASC heading down the stretch in the regular season.
 
Concordia Texas will conclude regular-season ASC play on Saturday when they host Mary Hardin-Baylor for a dual match in Lakeway, Texas at 3 p.m.
