Tornados wrap up ASC play with 7-2 win over McMurry

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team recorded a pair of shutouts in doubles play for an early advantage and coasted to a 7-2 victory over McMurry at the Austin Tennis Center on Saturday.

The Tornados were looking for their fifth win in their last six matches after taking care of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday.

Concordia Texas opened up with a quick 2-1 lead after winning two of the three matches in doubles play.

After Joeri Bregman and Robin Van der Heijden fell short at line one, the Tornados picked them up, registering wins at lines two and three.

Adrian Munguia and Joshua Bode made quick work of the War Hawks' Trey Fambrough and Reid Smith at line two, winning 8-0, while Esteban Arredondo and Michael Davis, at line three, rolled to an 8-0 victory as well.

In singles, CTX overwhelmed McM, winning at line two through six.

Bregman barely broke a sweat at line four, taking down Chris Causer in straight sets 6-0, 6-1, while Munguia bounced back from an opening set loss to win the final two sets 6-0, 6-0 for the fourth point of the day.

Arredondo clinched the team win with a 6-4, 6-1 win at line five. Meanwhile, Van der Heijden and Evan Pena Jr. took care of business in straight sets at line two and six to wrap up the win, respectively.

The Tornados will close out the regular season on Saturday, hosting St. Thomas (TX) in a non-conference battle at 1 p.m. at the River Place Country Club in Austin, Texas.
