Tornados dominate St. Thomas (TX), win 6-1

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team ended their regular season on a high note, winning their fourth straight match, defeating St. Thomas (TX) 6-1 on Saturday at River Place Country Club.

The Tornados, who wrapped up conference play last week with a win over McMurry, faced off against the Celts in a non-conference battle.

In doubles, CTX was no match, winning handily at line one and two, while line three ended on a win by default due to UST not having enough players.

Robin Van der Heijden and Joeri Bregman cruised past Race Haas and Tyler Head at line one, taking it 8-4. Meanwhile, teammates Adrian Munguia and Joshua Bode had no issues at line two, grabbing an 8-1 victory for a 2-0 lead.

In singles, Bode stayed perfect on the day, securing a straight set win at line one with a 10-8 decision in a second-set tiebreaker. Van der Heijden, stayed undefeated on the day as well, taking care of business with a 6-4, 6-4 win at line two.

Munguia and Pena, meanwhile, wrapped up the team victory with straight-set wins at lines three and five, respectively.

Concordia Texas will now prepare for the American Southwest Conference Tournament, which will be hosted by UT Dallas in Richardson, Texas. The Tornados enter the tournament as the two seed out of the ASC West and will face east division three-seed East Texas Baptist in the quarterfinal round on Thursday at 2 p.m.
