Tornados hold off Hardin-Simmons' rally, clinch fourth straight series win

AUSTIN, Texas – Emily Schmuck's go-ahead two-run single in the fourth broke a tied ballgame and the Concordia Texas softball team held on to defeat Hardin-Simmons 4-3, clinching the series win on Friday.

After splitting the first two games of the series on Thursday, the Tornados entered the day looking to claim their fourth straight series win.

Concordia Texas got on the scoreboard first, as Cristina Ayala led off the game with a single. Following a sac bunt, Megan Hooper ripped an RBI single into right to score Ayala and make it 1-0.

The Cowgirls tied the game up at 1-all with a run in the third, but nothing more as Bailey Tisdale induced a fly out to end the threat.

In the next inning, the Tornados' bats woke up as Emily Moses and Landrei Stafford led off with back-to-back singles. After a sac bunt moved the runners over, Schmuck knocked a single into left, scoring a pair and would reach third on the throw home. Ayala folllowed with an RBI ground out to score Schmuck and make it 4-1.

Hardin-Simmons inched their way back though, scoring two runs in the fifth, cutting the Tornados' lead to one.

In the seventh, Tisdale worked around a one-out single to retire the Cowgirls and seal the 4-3 victory, her ninth win of the season and fourth in a row.

The first four CTX hitters of the lineup combined to go 5-for-10 on the day, including a two-hit performance from Megan Hooper, while Moses also finished with two hits and a run scored.

The Tornados will return to the road on April 9, heading to Abilene, Texas to open a three-game series against McMurry. The series will open with a doubleheader with the first pitch set for 3 p.m.
