RICHARDSON, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's tennis team started the American Southwest Conference Tournament with a dominant showing, coming out on top 5-0 in the quarterfinal matchup with East Texas Baptist on Thursday.
The Tornados began the match with a clean sweep of doubles play, jumping out to a 3-0 lead.
Robin Van der Heijden and
Joeri Bregman teamed up for the first win of the day, earning an 8-6 victory at line one. Next, the duo of
Joshua Bode and
Adrian Munguia won 8-2 at line two, and
Esteban Arredondo and
Michael Davis cruised to an 8-1 victory, closing out the sweep in doubles play.
In singles play, Mungia and Arredondo picked up a pair of straight-sets win, clinching the 5-0 victory.
Mungia competed at line three, throttling ETBU's Adam Morris by a score of 6-1, 6-0, and Arredondo followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win of his own at line five.
Concordia Texas advances to the ASC Tournament semifinals, awaiting the winner of the match between Mary Hardin-Baylor and UT Dallas. The Tornados' semifinal matchup will take place at the UT Dallas Tennis Courts in Richardson, Texas on Friday at 2 p.m.
