CLINTON, Miss. –
Megan Hooper had her second three-hit performance of the season, but it was not enough for the Concordia Texas softball team, falling to Hardin-Simmons 2-1 on the first day of the American Southwest Conference Tournament.
The Tornados, earned a first-round bye in the conference tournament after finishing as the two seed from the ASC West. They faced the Cowgirls, who had won an elimination game earlier in the day over McMurry.
Ashley Soto and Hooper each had multi-hit performances for the game, but the CTX offense was only able to muster a run.
Hardin-Simmons opened the scoring, plating a run in the fourth on a fielder's choice to take a 1-0 lead. They doubled their advantage two innings later, scoring another run on a wild pitch.
In the fifth, the Tornados threatened after Soto reached on a one-out single, but the inning ended abruptly as
Cristina Ayala lined out into a double play.
In the following frame, CTX took advantage of a pair of errors. Hooper led off the inning with a single and came around to score on a throwing error after an
Ashley Hallmark bunt to cut it to 2-1.
In their final at-bat, Soto ripped her second single of the game, but was stranded after a ground out and fly out ended the game and the Tornados' season.
Concordia Texas finishes the season qualifying for their first conference tournament since 2018 and will return with a wealth of talent, but will lose its five seniors
Simone Langland,
Anissa Garcia,
Heather Casiano, Soto and Hallmark.
