Tornados take down Tigers, win third straight match

MARSHALL, Texas – After a scoreless first half, the Concordia Texas women's soccer team scored three goals in less than 10 minutes and held on to beat East Texas Baptist 3-2 on Saturday.

The Tornados picked up their third straight win, all of them coming on the road, and advance to a record of 3-4-1 overall and a perfect 2-0 in ASC play.

The first half saw the Tornados take six shots, including two on-goal from Emily Mowrer, but CTX could not come away with a goal. However, the defense held stout, holding ETBU scoreless thanks to a save from Lora Tresco.

In the second half, the Tornados' offense exploded for three goals, the first coming from Patricia Heckendorn in the 58th minute as Kaley Kaspar assisted on the play. Her first score of the season gave CTX a 1-0 lead.

Just five minutes later, Kaspar notched a goal of her own, making it her second straight game with both a goal and an assist recorded. The junior extended the CTX lead to 2-0 in the 63rd minute.

Next, Marissa Funk found the back net with what would become the game-winner, adding on to the Tornados' lead after an assist from Heckendorn. In the 66th minute, Concordia Texas held a 3-0 advantage.

The Tigers fought back, scoring a pair of goals in the 75th and 87th minute, but the Tornados held on to their lead, ultimately winning 3-2.

After ending their road stint with a three-game winning streak, the Tornados will return home on Thursday, hosting UT Dallas at 5 pm in Round Rock, Texas.
