Tornados draw against UT Dallas in defensive stalemate

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's soccer team tallied 16 shots over 110 minutes of play, but was unable to convert and ended in a 0-0 draw against UT Dallas on Thursday at the
Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.

The Tornados hosted its first home game since Sept. 14, continuing American Southwest Conference, this time against the Comets in a rematch of last year's conference tournament semifinal.

In the first half, CTX fired three shots on frame, including one by Melvin Molina in the 19th minute but UTD was there for the save.

The Tornados had another scoring opportunity, this one in the 32nd minute, as Adrian Guerrero had a shot on target, but the Comets' Trey Nickel made the save.

Meanwhile, CTX's Joshua Redding recorded three saves in the first half, keeping the game scoreless at 0-0 at the midway point.

In the second half, the Tornados remained a wall defensively, preventing UTD from breaking the tie, including block a shot in the 73rd minute to keep the game scoreless.

Molina nearly found the back of the net in the 84th minute, but it was saved and the teams headed to extra time after 90 minutes of play.

In extra time, the teams combined for a total of 11 shots, but neither one found the back of the net.

Concordia Texas recorded a pair of shots in the final minute, but both were blocked and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

Up next, the Tornados will continue ASC play, hosting Ozarks on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., at St. Michael's Academy in Austin, Texas.
